BANGOR and ORRINGTON – Norman Dow DeCesere Sr., 84, husband of the late Naomi (Simpson) DeCesere died Aug. 28, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare center. He was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Bangor, the son of Alphonso and Isabella (McLeod) DeCesere. He attended Bangor schools and was a member of the National Guard. He owned and operated Alert Cleaners on Hammond Street for many years. He retired from General Electric as a tool crib manager. In retirement, he delivered Meals for Me, enjoyed working in his wood shop on crafts and traveling. He is survived by one son and four daughters, Norman D. “Bud” DeCesere Jr. and wife, Jill, of Orrington, Gloria Davin and husband, Richard of California and Oregon, Barbara Hurd and husband, Carl of Florida, Brenda Patterson and husband, Ralph “Bud” of Holden, Deloris “Dory” Demmons and companion, Jim Martin of Eddington; one brother, Vincent DeCesere Sr. and wife, Eunice of Orrington and Arizona; one sister, Helen Gilbert of Orono; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by a special friend, Elva Abbott of Brewer. He also leaves behind “Mans Best Friend,” his poodle “Sammy.” He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Naomi in 1996; three brothers and one sister. His family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Westgate Manor and to New Hope Hospice for their exceptional care, guidance and support. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Kathryn E. Smith, associate pastor of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Committal services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, at Marston Cemetery, Orrington.
