ELLSWORTH – Norman L. Hodgkins Sr., 68, died Oct. 23, 2005, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, surrounded by his wife, Charlene; son, Andrew; daughter-in-law, Erin and friends. Norman was born June 10, 1937, in Trenton, the son of Beryl and Arthur Hodgkins. He was the owner of N.L. Hodgkins & Sons Paving. Norman lived in Franklin for 18 years before moving to Georgia for eight years, returning to Maine in 1999. He was a member of the Ellsworth Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 26 years and the Georgia Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for eight years. Norman was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, hunting and caring for his horses throughout the years. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Charlene Hodgkins; his sons and wives, Norman Hodgkins Jr., of Franklin, Daniel of Georgia, Earl, Benjamin and Adam, all of Portland and Andrew of Hancock; his daughter, Shirley Mitton; 14 grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bradford Hodgkins, of Falmouth; one sister, Marie Kief of Franklin. He was predeceased by his son, Todd Hodgkins; two brothers, Roger and Larry. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Ellsworth Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Ridge Road. Following the service a gathering will be held beginning at 4 p.m., at the Holiday Inn, Ellsworth, refreshments will be served. Arrangements by Acadia Burial & Cremation Direct, Ellsworth.
