OLD TOWN – Ona E. (Shorey) Jenkins, 87, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at an Orono Nursing facility after many years of health problems. She was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Lowell, the daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Ewing) Shorey. Ona was a member of the United Baptist Church in Old Town, where she had served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, Pioneer Girls leader and started the Women’s Bible Fellowship Group. She was employed as a bookkeeper for LaBree’s Bakery for 40 years and did tax work in her home for several years. She is survived and will be sadly missed by a daughter, Myrna and her husband, Horace (Bud) Watkins, of Old Town; sons, William and his wife, Joeline Inman, of Woolwich, Floyd and his wife, Hope Inman, of New Hampshire, Kerry and his wife, Irene Inman, of Pennsylvania, Kenneth and his wife, Donna Jenkins, of Old Town, Tommy and his wife, Ethel Jenkins, of Bradley; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Carpenter of York; brother, Burleigh Shorey and his wife, Laura, of Milford; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth F. Jenkins; a brother, William (Skip) Shorey; and a sister, Barbara Shorey. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday at the United Baptist Church, 86 Middle St., Old Town, with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Bradley. Friends and family are invited to the Baptist Church fellowship hall following the burial for a luncheon and continued fellowship.
