BREWER – Pastor Homer James Strang died April 20 2008, at a Bangor hospital, three months after the death of his wife, Gwen “GeGe” Strang. They had been married for 63 years. He was born in Brewer, the son of Clifford and Hazel (Young) Strang. During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard the USS Hancock. A longtime manager of Mac’s Market, South Brewer, Pastor Strang began his ministry in the mid-1960s, preaching at many area Baptist churches, including churches in Houlton, Cherryfield and Mariaville. For the past 28 years, he ministered to the members of Cardville United Baptist Church, where his wife was the music accompanist on the piano. During his ministry, he touched many lives. Surviving are one son, Dr. Steven Strang and his wife, Ayni, of Medford, Mass.; two grandchildren, Elly and Marta Peimer; a cousin, Gwen Trabold of Old Town; two sisters-in-law, Frances Comer and her husband, George, of Springfield, Mass., and Donna Joyce Nelligan of Hallowell; a niece, Barbilyn Church and her husband, Cony, of Augusta; nieces and nephews in New England and New York. He was predeceased by his parents; and by a brother, Merle Michael Strang. A graveside service for Homer and GeGe will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer, with the Rev.
