EDDINGTON – Patricia Ann Moores, 65, died April 24, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. Pat was born March 17, 1942, at her parents’ home in Hancock, the daughter of Maurice Ervin, a carpenter, and Alvina Hartford Libby Moores, a teacher. During the Cold War in the mid-1950s, Pat was awarded her civilian air spotter wings as an observer and reporter of all airplanes flying over Hancock. Each was called in to Dow Air Force Base, Bangor, and military planes were scrambled if any reported plane could not be identified from there. Pat taught 30 years in the Eddington and Holbrook schools of MSAD No. 63, where her primary love and responsibility were to teach American and Maine history to eighth graders from the towns of Clifton, Eddington and Holden. Throughout the years she coordinated a number of award programs at Holbrook, such as the special Maine Life Festival and the Summer Enrichment Program. She was also instrumental in organizing student council and career day. She chaired the teacher negotiating team for several years, as well as the committee to set local certification guidelines for the state. In addition, for after-school activities for students, she started a Lassie League for the district, as well as coaching girls’ softball at Holbrook. In January 2001, in her honor, the new fifth grade classroom wing at Holbrook was dedicated in her name. Pat retired from teaching in June 1994 and had since that time, been a tireless volunteer at Holbrook while enthusiastically assembling a comprehensive family genealogy at home. She is survived by two brothers, Harold of Houston and Larry of Atlanta; two nephews, Paul and Thomas; a predeceased nephew, Travis; friend and person who was like a sister, Sylvia Morrill, adopting as well Sylvia’s children, John, Kurt, Kellee, Larry and Barry. She also leaves very close friends, Frances Wadleigh and Barbara Crosby, and numerous colleagues whom she respected. A service of remembrance will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H.
