OLD TOWN – Paul D. Stoyell, 64, passed June 4, 2007, away at his home with his wife, sons and friends at his side. He was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Auburn, N.Y., the son of DeWitt and Eleanor (Brokaw) Stoyell. Paul was a graduate of Moravia High School, New York. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and later, his master’s degree in guidance and counseling at the University of Maine in Orono. Paul went on working with children as head soccer coach at the University of Maine for 10 years, before working as a counselor at Job Corps, Mattanawcook Academy, Hampden Academy and Old Town High School. He additionally gave time to Maine youth as a wrestling coach, high school soccer referee and as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Paul loved kids and he was a great communicator with all who knew him. He will be missed by the many whose lives he touched as an educator, leader, mentor and friend. Paul loved to share stories with friends and family at their cabin in the summer months on Toddy Pond. He had an infectious personality and was loved by all and considered and treated many of his friends as family. He had a love for fishing and he spent many days with his son, Brian, out on the lake and at fishing tournaments throughout the state. Paul was also proud of his son, Brett, and his success as an USA swim coach in Colorado. He was predeceased by his parents. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara Stoyell of Old Town; sons, Brett Stoyell of Colorado and Brian Stoyell and his wife, Kelly, of Bradley; and grandsons, Garrett and Jeremy of Bradley. Friends may call 5 p.m. Thursday, June 7, until the time of service at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will begin 6 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating. A special heartfelt thank you is given to CancerCare of Maine and New Hope Hospice for their excellent caring throughout this difficult time.
