CALAIS – Paul J. Barnard died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at a Calais hospital. Mr. Barnard was born March 27, 1923, the son of the late Arthur and Violet (Trecartin) Barnard. Paul graduated from Woodland High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army for four years. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, he was employed for 55 years at St. Croix Paper Co. and Georgia Pacific. Paul is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Pat and their five children, Brian and Leslie Barnard and their daughters, Nikki, Brandi and Tiffany of Eagle River, Ark., Paulette Gillespie of Calais and her children, Branden of Bangor and BryAna of Indiana, Deborah and Calvin Murphy and their children, Jessefa and Ariel of Bangor, Sharon Grey and partner Babe Moholland and children, Eric MacDonald of Calais, Amber MacDonald of Bangor and Tara Grey of Calais, Katharine Barnard and daughters, Sheena and Sunni Barnard of Calais; and two wonderful great-grandchildren, Branden Gillespie and Douglas Rudy. He is also survived by two brothers, William ‘Pat’ and Margaret Barnard of Florida, and David and Nellie Barnard of Baileyville; two sisters, Ruth Williams of Westbrook and Ida and Norman Kneeland of Baileyville; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Arthur, Carrol, Philip, Frances; and a sister, Viola Moffitt. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Frank Morin Wednesday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at the St. James The Greater Catholic Church in Baileyville.
