HOLDEN – Paul J. Gaucher, 61, husband of Mary Lou (Medeiros) Gaucher, died unexpectedly, Oct. 1, 2006, at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1945, in Brockton, Mass., the son of Mitchell J. and Helen E. (Mottau) Gaucher. Paul was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in Vietnam, Panama and the Dominican Republic, retiring in 1983 after 20 years. He was a life member of the VFW in Lebanon, Mo. He worked for the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office for many years. He began his service as a dispatcher, later worked on the road as a patrol deputy and was constable in Orrington, Milford and Bradley. Paul’s work took him into the community where he was a DARE officer and taught the “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” program to children and the 55 Alive safety program to adults. During the latter years of his career, he worked as a sergeant in the civil division. Paul was active in emergency medical services and served as chief of the Holden Rescue Squad. One of his loves was cooking and part of his identity with his family and colleagues was his cooking. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Holden; are two children, Teresa and Joanne Gaucher, both of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Danielle and Kyle Gaucher; one brother, Mitchell Gaucher and his wife, Louise, of Florida; two sisters, Michelle Madden and her husband, William, of Florida and Joanne Alves of Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, officiating. A gathering will be immediately after in the church hall and those assisting may call Nicole at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office .In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
