WALDO – Paul Roger Cook Sr., 79, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, with his daughter by his side. Paul was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Unity, the son of Albert and Caddie (Blair) Cook. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Paul returned to Maine, where he met and married the love of his life, Shirley (Du-mont) Cook in 1955. Together they raised two children on the family farm in Waldo. Paul was a selectman and a volunteer firefighter for the town of Waldo in the ’70s. He enjoyed hunting and spent many hours hunting on his land in Waldo, and fishing summers at the family cottage on Lake Quantabacook. Paul was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Paul and his brother, Jim Cook, co-owned Cook Brothers. He also drove tanker truck for Scott Motors and Dead River Co., for many years. Paul and Shirley owned and ran the Depot, Belfast, for several years. Paul and his wife, Shirley, spent many winters at their Florida home until his beloved Shirley became ill. They returned to Maine, where Paul took wonderful care of Shirley until her death. He will be remembered for his beautiful smile, kind heart and his honesty. Paul loved and adored his granddaughters they both brought him such joy. Paul is survived by his two children, Colleen (Cook) Oxton and her husband, David, of Belfast, and Paul Cook Jr. of Lakeland, Fla.; his two beautiful granddaughters, Cassandra A. Oxton of Fort Jackson, S.C., and Brittany E. Cook of Clermont, Fla.; two brothers, Drew Cook and his wife, Charlene, and Robert Cook and his wife, Marilyn, all of Belfast; two brothers-in-law, Mahon Du-mont of Belfast and James Dumont of Folcraft, Pa.; as well as his faithful canine companion, Tobie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley; brothers, Donald, Jim, Elmer and Claude Cook; one sister, Josie Littlefield; two nephews, Andy Cook and Michael Cook. At Paul’s request there will be no funeral services. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions in Paul’s memory to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
