BREWER – Pauline (Colliton) Perry, 86, died Dec. 24, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare center. She had resided since 1950, at 129 Washington St., Brewer. Pauline was born June 24, 1919, in Eliot, daughter of Frank and Helen (Lougee) Colliton. She was raised in West Gardiner by her grandparents, Frank Lougee and Libbie Ethelyn Hutchinson Lougee and was a graduate of Gardiner High School, Class of 1936. Pauline attended the Kennebec School of Commerce and worked at the Gardiner Savings Bank. During World War II she worked in the stock record department at Dow Air Force Base, Bangor. A resident of Brewer since 1942, she married Joseph A. Perry Jr. Nov. 18, 1944. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1994. Until her retirement, she was the book keeper for Lougee-Frederick Florists, in Bangor. She taught grade one in the Sunday school of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor and also made costumes for Peg Bennett’s Maypole Festival dancers in the 1960’s. She was active in the Brewer PTA and Brewer Band Parents until 1973, and served as a volunteer library aide at the Washington Street School also in Brewer. With a lifelong commitment to learning she was an avid reader, a superb speller and grammarian and a self taught authority on horses, military aircraft and ornithology. Other interest included crossword puzzles, gardening, knitting and jig saw puzzles. She was well known for her lively wit and sense of humor. Since 1995, she had been a benefactor of the Brewer Public Library, establishing a fund for the purchase of large-print books. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, who passed away in 1997; also two brothers-in-law, John W. Perry of Addison, David H. Perry of Orrington; and a son-in-law, Dr. Jerry L. Bowder of Gorham. She is survived by a daughter, Libbie Perry Bowder of Gorham; a son, Joseph G. “Jay” Perry and daughter-in-law, Ruth Williams Perry; and grandson, Raymond Joseph Perry, all of Clifton; a very special cousin, Ellen Lougee Frederick of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Marion J. Perry of Orrington; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Perry of Addison; nephews, Donald Perry and his wife, Barbara Perry, of Peaks Island, Richard Perry of Orrington, Ward Perry and Leon Perry of Addison, Philip Frederick of Bangor, James and Stephen Frederick, and Chip Lougee of Raymond; nieces, Susan Lougee Gagnon of Portland, Karen Lougee, Martha Frederick Vicens of North Andover, Mass., and Dr. Maryon Frederick King of Carbondale, Ill., and their families. Survivors also include stepgrandchildren, Hans Bowder of Gorham, and Gretchen Bowder of Melrose, Mass., many great-nieces and nephews including, Holly Perry, Peaks Island and Sarah, Carole, Jill, and Julie Perry of Addison; also three great-stepgrandchildren, Gus, Georgia Bowder-Newton and Charlotte Bowder of Gorham. She also wished to give special mention to her long time friend and colleague, Lena D. Gilleland, lately of Brewer. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the many members of Pauline’s support team, who enabled her to live in her own home as long as possible. Some of these include, Marylin Krosnik of “A Loving Touch,” the friendly drivers for Meals for ME, members of the outreach team at the Brewer Public Library and her friends, Fran and Elise, also of Brewer Public Library; also special thanks to her good neighbors, James Royal, Abby Morse and the late Jim West. Pauline and the family wish to express special thanks and gratitude to the staff at Westgate Manor, for their loving care and concern during the past year and also for their compassion and extra care during Pauline’s final days. We would also like to mention Lia Farnham of the EMMC Palliative Care Program for her compassion and greatly appreciated support. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Following the service the family invite relatives and friends for conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Rooms. A summer burial is planned at Church Hill Cemetery, Addison.
