BAR HARBOR – Pauline “Cookie” LaPorte, 56, died June 2, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends at the Mount Desert Island Hospital. Cookie died from complications of breast cancer after a courageous 10-year battle with the disease. She was born July 17, 1950, in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of William Silvia and Emily Silvia. Cookie loved the simplicity of life and shared this enthusiasm with all who crossed her path. Her smile and contagious laugh left a lasting positive impression with anyone she met. She enjoyed and appreciated every minute she spent with her family, especially her grandson, Benjamin Parker Taylor, who held a special place in her heart. An avid rider, Cookie took every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors on her trike. Her love for the outdoors was also reflected in her countless walks on paths and visits to the parks with her family. She was, and is, an inspiration to many as she faced cancer with endless determination and an unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed by her family who will forever love her, her energy, and her love of life. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Richard LaPorte; a daughter, Kathy-Jo Taylor and her husband, Eric Taylor; one grandchild, Benjamin Parker Taylor; her three brothers, Mike Silvia, Will Silvia, and Steve Silvia; and her sister, Liz Fortin. Her life will be celebrated July 14, by her family and friends in the great outdoors at her home; three days before what would have been her 57th birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her name to Mount Desert Island Hospital, Oncology Department, 10 Wayman Lane, P.O. Box 8, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 or EMMC, CancerCare of Maine, 489 State St., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, Bangor.
