DEER ISLE – Peter L. Turner, 68, died May 29, 2008, at his home. He was born July 28, 1939, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Leroy and Flora (Ronco) Turner. Peter attended schools in Orono and Sebec, and served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s. He worked in woolen mills for many years before he started working at L & H Chevrolet, Pittsfield. In 1973 he moved to Stonington, where he worked for Butch Byard for a few months before he started doing what he loved, lobstering. He then moved to Deer Isle in 1984. Peter and his fishing pole were a well-known figure around Stonington and Deer Isle, and he especially loved family and spending time with them. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Davis) Turner of Deer Isle; his son, Bruce and his wife, Debra, of Sedgewick; two daughters, Darlene and her companion, Larry Bunt, of Deer Isle and Elissa Nelson and her husband, Randy, of Fairfield; grandchildren, Lisa Allen and her husband, Josh, Robert Slaughter, James, Drew, Tracy Turner, Jeremiah Folson Turner, John Turner and Amy Hardy; great-grandchildren, Torece Nelson, Braiden Turner and Jacob Allen. He was also survived by three sisters, Mary Smart of Sebec, Kitty Maheu of Anson and Jennie Rideout of Atkinson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Turner. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 9 Thurlow’s Hill, Stonington. A funeral service will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eggemoggin Baptist Church, Reach Road, Sedgewick, with the Rev. Stephen McFarland, pastor, officiating.
