FORT FAIRFIELD – Peter Mills LeVasseur, 68, passed away Sept. 3, 2006, from complications due to a stroke, with his loving family at his side. He was born July 15, 1938, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Renis and Angie (Mills) LeVasseur. Peter was a devoted husband and family man. He took pride in being “the best Dad and Granddad ever.” Peter graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1957 and obtained an associate’s degree from the University of Maine, majoring in agriculture economics. He married Susan Hill Oct. 19, 1966, and started his farming career the same year on the Center Limestone Road, as a certified seed grower. After retiring from farming in 1986, he started his second career as a potato broker. Peter traveled extensively to Florida, the mid-west, Mexico and Canada, and was a well-respected and honest representative of the potato industry. Peter was involved in many Fort Fairfield organizations and clubs. He was given the honor of Citizen of the Year in 1986 and he was a town councilor for many years- serving as chairman, Board of Assessment Review, Community Development Board, FHA County Committee and Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree. Peter’s favorite times were spent with his family doing cookouts, special vacations and watching grandchildren participate in school activities and sports. Peter loved playing cards, especially when he had the winning hand. Peter was predeceased by his mom and dad, Renis and Angie LeVasseur; a sister, Jean LeVassuer Pipes; and brothers, Renis II and John LeVasseur. Peter is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Susan Hill LeVasseur of Fort Fairfield; his four children, two sons, Peter LeVasseur II and his wife, Donna, of Titusville, Fla., Renis LeVasseur III and his wife, Tracy, of Fort Fairfield, two daughters, Laurie LeVasseur Miller and her husband, Scott, of Old Town, Susanne LeVasseur Shaw and her husband, Timothy, of Holden; his special grandchildren, Brittany, Garrett, Zachary and Brenna; his brother, Gary LeVasseur and his wife, Patricia, of Sebec Lake and Salem, N.J.; sisters, Madelyn Irvine and her husband, Hollis, of Caribou, Joanne Dunphy and her husband, Woodrow, of Linneus, Mary Hill and her husband, Ralph, of Yarmouth; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews; and two special aunts, Rose LeVasseur Pioneer of California and Edwina LeVasseur of Fort Fairfield. A special thank you to the doctors, nursing and administrative staff of the CSU of Eastern Maine Medical Center. They will always be remembered in a very special way by the family for their support and loving care. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Private interment will take place at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield at a later date. A time of continued fellowship will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall Post No. 1753, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield, sponsored the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, immediately after the funeral Mass. “Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.” In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to the Fort Fairfield Community Pool Project, care of Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, 232 Main St., Box 4, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
