PRESQUE ISLE – Philip Frederick Grant passed away Dec. 17, 2005, at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous struggle with cancer. He was born June 27, 1937, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Harold and Margaret (Plourde) Grant. After graduation he moved to Worcester, Mass. He returned home and began working at Vahlsing Inc. as traffic manager and later as sales manager. In the early 70’s, he was plant manager of Birdseye in Caribou and then moved on to be plant manager of Potato Service in Presque Isle. After leaving the potato processing industry he returned to his love of farming, raising seed potatoes. He retired in 1990. Philip was a strong supporter of the Harness Racing Industry and owned several racehorses. He was a past president of the Pine and Spurs Riding Club and a member of the Masons and Shriners. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Paul. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia (Stoddard); his four children and eight grandchildren, Suzanne and husband, Ray Hews, their children, Libby, of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Erin of Old Town; Scott and his wife, Ellen, their children, Kerri and Laura of Cumberland; Debra and her husband, Steven Walton, their children, Kyle and Nichole of Windham; Philip Michael and his wife, Olga, and their children, Garrett and Daniel of Conway, N.H.; his brother, Norman and wife, Elaine, of Fort Fairfield; sisters, Carolyn and husband, Peter Campbell, of Caribou, Barbara and her husband, Roy Carter, of Millinocket, Anna and her husband, Peter Cyr, of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers-in-law, Harold Stoddard of Kittery, Paul and his wife, Anne, of Presque Isle; aunts, Paula Plourde of Norridgewock , Shirley McIntosh of Bath, N.B., as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church in Presque Isle with the Dr. Rev. Thomas Blackstone officiating.
