SMYRNA MILLS – Philip T. Sherman, 63, died Sept. 3, 2005, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 8, 1941, in Island Falls, the son of Ralph and Mae (Parker) Sherman. Phil was employed for 30 years at Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and also worked as a self-employed log truck driver. He was the treasurer of the Oakfield Alumni Association and a member of the Oakfield Baptist Church and the American Legion Post No. 52. He was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything. He loved going to the Fryeburg Fair with his family each year. He and his wife spent many years traveling with their camper. Phil loved trucking, jeeping and being in the woods. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Sandra (Brisley) Sherman of Smyrna Mills; three sons, Dave Sherman of Kansas City, Mo., Stacy Sherman and his wife, Paulette, of New Limerick and Lany Sherman and his wife, Ann, of Linneus; two daughters, Lisa Fogarty and her friend, Dickie Day, of Benedicta and Lana Desmond and her husband, Paul, of Oakfield; eight special grandchildren, Cameron and James McDunnah, Kacey and Brittany Fogarty, Logan and Taylor Desmond and Parker and Landen Sherman; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Bell, Mitchell, Madison and Maverick McDunnah; one brother, Bob Sherman and his wife, Jeannette, of Island Falls; one sister, Connie Bartlett and her husband, Kerry, of Oakfield; one sister-in-law, Katie Sherman of Southington, Conn.; one brother-in-law, Roy Brisley of Oakfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by long-time special friends, Linnwood and Athlea Hersey and many other special friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Bill and Carl. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Kirby Rushton officiating. Interment will be in Oakfield Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in his memory to the Oakfield Baptist Church building fund. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
