PITTSFIELD – Phyllis Irene (Starbird) Bickford, 81, of Lancey Street, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield. She was born May 9, 1926, the daughter of Earl L. and Florence (Chamberlain) Starbird. She attended schools in Burnham and Clinton and graduated from MCI. She was employed at the treasury department in Washington, D.C. She returned to Pittsfield and married Wendell C. Bickford Jr. She was a member of the Pittsfield Fireman’s Auxiliary and was a bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses. She also worked at the Lancey House, Pittsfield. She was a devoted mother to her seven children and will be remembered for her ability to liven a party with a well-timed joke. She is survived by three daughters, Faye Bickford, Marcia Bickford, and Trudi Ames and her husband, Kevin, all of Pittsfield; three sons, Dennis and wife, Earlene, of Farmington, N.M., Timothy and wife, Deborah, of St. Albans, and Jeffrey and wife, Teresa, of Newport; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grand-children; one sister, Rosemary Springer and her husband, Dean, of Pittsfield; two brothers, Philip Starbird and wife, Anna, and Leroy and wife, Guillermina, of Clinton; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; and their son, Gary. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home.
