CALAIS – Phyllis L. Monaghan, 74, died Friday, April 23 2004, at a Calais hospital. Phyllis was born April 12, 1930, in Upper Mills, New Brunswick, the daughter of Chase and Elizabeth (Johnson) Cornish. On Dec. 4, 1954, she married James E. Monaghan Sr. in Milltown, New Brunswick. She enjoyed children, especially babies, cooking and her special joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis was predeceased by four sisters, Edith Doten, Ruth Wheeler, Edna Mahar, and Doris Sadler; and two brothers, Richard Cornish and Lewis “Dewey” Cornish. Surviving are her loving husband of 49 years, James E. Monaghan Sr. of Calais; two sons, Paul G. Monaghan and his wife, Karen, of Portsmouth, N.H., and James E. Monaghan Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Milltown; three daughters, Priscilla Hatt and her husband, Danny, of Mayfield, N.B., Mary McLean and her husband, Ted, of Milltown, and Diane King and her husband, Paul, of Milltown; 11 grandchildren, Whitney and Connor Monaghan of Portsmouth, N.H., Chasity and Alison Monaghan of Milltown, Jason Hatt of Rollingdam, N.B., Krista Corning of Waweig, N.B., Jennifer Hatt of Mayfield, N.B., Melissa and Ashley McLean of Milltown, Matthew King of Charlotte, N.C., and Jonathan King of Milltown; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Corning, Jocelyn McLean and Caleb Hatt; many nieces nephews, and special friends. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais where funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Dana Kadey officiating. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery.
