OWLS HEAD – Priscilla Hastings Sukeforth, 78, died unexpectedly, Sunday, March 14, 2004. Born Nov. 5, 1925, in Skowhegan, she was the daughter of Courtney and Hannah Hastings. Moving to Warren at a young age, she was educated in Warren grade schools and was a 1943 graduate of Thomaston High School. She went on to graduate from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. On Nov. 9, 1946, she married Richard D. Sukeforth in Rockland. She spent many years as a scrub nurse for local surgeons. Mrs. Sukeforth was a member of the Rockland Congregational Church and a founding member of the Knox County Nurses’ Guild of which she was treasurer until her death. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and cherished her friends of many years. She spent many hours volunteering her time and skill as a nurse. Working in and creating beautiful flower gardens was one of her favorite pastimes. She was predeceased by one sister, Nancy McKenna on Dec. 26, 2003. Mrs. Sukeforth is survived by her husband of 57 years of Owls Head; one son, James A. Sukeforth of Lexington, Mass.; a sister, Ann McGowan of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Michael J. and Casey L. Sukeforth, both of Lexington; as well as several nieces and nephews. No visiting hours will be held. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. Spring interment will be in Village Cemetery, Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nurses’ Guild Scholarship Fund, care of Janet Watkinson, P.O. Box 341, Owls Head, ME 04854.
