ROCKWOOD – Randall S. Whitten, 77, passed March 8, 2006, at his home in California. At his side were daughters, Tanya Ward and Margo Moody; brother, Richard Whitten; and nephews, Brian Aber and Abi Whitten. Randall was born June 7, 1928, in Waterville. He attended Kents Hill in Augusta, then to serve in the U.S. Navy and receive a World War 11 Victory Medal of Honor. He met Margaret Saucier the summer of 1958, the two wed Nov. 27, 1958. He owned and operated the Moosehead Inn and Whitten’s Store in Rockwood, for many years. He started the first fire department and helped start the snowmobile trails in Rockwood. Randall’s most enjoyable moments were with his family and friends he so loved. Not to mention his dog and special companion, “Miss Mona.” Randall leaves behind his two daughters, Tanya Ward of Greenville and Margo W. Moody and husband of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, R. Guy Whitten and his son, Abi of Los Angeles, Calif., Richard Whitten and wife of Windsor Locks, Conn.; four grandchildren, Charlie and Reva Ward of Greenville, Patrick and Joshua Whitten of New Hampshire; one great-grandson, Triston Sean Whitten, son of Patrick; also a dear friend, Betty Munster of Rockwood; mother-in-law, Adrienne Saucier and father-in-law, Robert McElroy, both of Greenville; several sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Randall was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 1995; and his son, Randy in 1991. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. June 11, at the Peoples United Methodist Church, Greenville Junction, followed by an interment at the Greenville Cemetery family lot with a repast at the American Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be made in care of Randy Whitten Scholarship Fund, Maine Highland Federal Credit Union, P.O, Box 1267, Greenville, ME 04441. This award is given each year to a Greenville High School graduate. We also love and miss you, your laughter, your smile and your determination, you did it your way. You are never alone, you have the strength of your heavenly creator, the Messiah, therefore, no more tears. You will live on for eternity in all our hearts and minds.
