COLUMBIA – Raymond W. Savage, 85, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Columbia, the son of Guilford and Lola (Wallace) Savage. Raymond was a veteran of World War II, during which time he served in the Army as a Medical Technician. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. After the war, Raymond worked as a woodcutter for many years for Eastern Pulp and Paper. He also was a commercial marine worm digger for many years. Raymond greatly enjoyed hunting for bear and wildcats. He is survived by a daughter, Ardene Merritt of Eddington; a daughter-in-law, Helen Ayers of Florida; six grandchildren, Randy Merritt, Lyndene Strickland, Michael Merritt, Wallace Ayers, Kim Ayers, and Karen Ayers; six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Patrick Merritt, Ryan and Ricky Strickland, and Kyla and Christopher Ayers; a brother, Guy Savage of Yarmouth; four sisters, Edna Savage of Portland, Jenny Bigger or California, Laurie Ingersoll of Brunswick and Helen Lydon of Portland; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Avis W. Savage; a son, Lynwood Ayers; a brother, Walter Savage; and a sister, Margaret. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 11. Interment will be at the Mailey Hill Cemetery, Columbia. Gifts in memory of Raymond may be sent to the Columbia Falls Alumni Association, Columbia Falls.
