REGINALD H. MCKENNEY VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Reginald Herbert McKenney, 75, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went to a peaceful home Feb. 13, 2006. Mr. McKenney was born and raised in Madison. After serving for two years in Europe with the U.S. Army, Mr. McKenney returned to Maine in 1955, earned a master’s degree, began a career in accounting, married and started a family. In 1976, Mr. McKenney relocated his family to Virginia Beach when he accepted a teaching position at Norfolk State University (retired 1995). During his 30 years in the community, he was known as an educator, a fan of Bayside High School and community sporting events and a purveyor of Christmas wreaths. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Jean Wells McKenney; five children and their spouses, David and Patricia McKenney, Teresa and Richard Whitlock, Alan and Jennifer McKenney, Patricia and Robert Parker, Amanda and Geoffrey Mueller; two brothers, Ronnie McKenney and Donnie McKenney; and one sister, Jackie Prelgovisk. In addition, Mr. McKenney was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, Morgan, Camden, Emma, Colby, Ryan, Adam, Madison and Kelsey. The family will receive friends and neighbors at a memorial luncheon in his honor 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Lake Wright Quality Inn. A graveside service will be held this spring in Maine. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, care of EMS Administration, 1917 Artic Ave., VA Beach, VA 23451. Cremation Society of Virginia, Virginia Beach will be handling the arrangements.
