DEXTER – Reginald Theodore McKenney, 86, died July 12, 2006 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Benton, the son of Albert Dermont McKenney and Helen Faas. He attended the Benton Elementary School and Lawrence High School, where he played varsity football. He worked in the Central Maine Sanatorium for a short time, then spent 42 years working in the Waterville shops for the Maine Central Railroad, and the last 25 years in the “Round House.” During World War II he served in the Navy. He was in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, aboard the Battleship Massachusetts. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, boating, and flying. He was a member of the Dexter Kiwanis Club, the Dexter Flying Club, and the Dexter Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. He married Frances Roberts from Winslow, where they lived before moving to Dexter. He and Frances owned and operated Toots Delicatessen on Spring Street for several years before selling to the present owner. On April 22, 1974, he married Jacqueline Mary Hall Tempesta of Dexter. They lived on the shore of Lake Wassookeag in Dexter. He is survived by his former wife, Frances; two sons, Ronald McKenney of Connecticut and Jerry McKenney of Florida; two brothers, Donald McKenney of Palm Desert, Calif. and George McKenney of Chatsworth, Ga.; four stepchildren, Albert Tempesta of Dexter, Terri Nightengale of Newport Beach, Calif., Toni Padgett of Atlanta, Ga. and Lisa Russell of Jacksonville, Fla.; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jeff McKenney, of Harmony. At his request, there will be no funeral services. His ashes will be buried next to his wife, Jacqueline, in Dexter.
