BANGOR – Rhoda H. Long, 104, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at the Maine Veterans Home, in Bangor. Rhoda was born Jan. 31, 1900, in Messina, N.Y. the daughter of Harry and Ethel (Farnum) Hubburd. She graduated from Northfield Academy, in Vermont and from the Castleton Normal School. She was a life member of the Eastern Star. She was married to Lauren G. Long, who predeceased her in 1956. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a manager of the Huntington Hotel and owner operator of several apartments in Burlington, Vt. she was also an air raid spotter during World War II. Rhoda leaves behind many loving memories. Surviving relatives include a son, Lauren H. Long and wife, Lois of Inglis, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lauren H. Long Jr. of Fairfield, Rebecca R. Johns of Paradise, Calif., Kathleen J. Lawson of Butte, Mont., Alan R. Long of Scott, AFB, Ill., and Daniel L. Long of Old Town. She is also survived by a sister, Hazel Siegriest of Milton, Vt. four great-grandchildren and five nephews. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A second service will be held at a later date at the Minor Funeral home in Milton, Vt. Spring interment will be by her husband, Lauren, at the Warren Cemetery in Vermont. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor for their loving care.
