EAST MACHIAS and CUTLER – Richard C. Ramsdell, 75, passed away March 24, 2008, at his home after a long illness. He was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Cutler, the son of the late Carroll and Mabel (Prevost) Ramsdell. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. During his service in Korea, Richard was wounded. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Richard was a lifetime member of the VFW. While living in Cutler, Richard served many roles. He spent time as town constable, fire chief, police officer and clam warden. He also was a part-time deputy sheriff under Pat Clemons. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jeanette Ramsdell; daughter, Jennifer Verburgt and husband, Mike; sister, Geraldine Landry and husband, Dick; granddaughters, Courtney and Samantha Ramsdell; nephew, Randy Ramsdell and wife, Brenda; good friends, Kip and Barbara Robertson, Gib Sheridan and Marilyn Randall. The family especially thanks Allan Huntley, who was like a son to Richard; Allan’s wife, Linda; and longtime friend, Arthur Porter, who would call every day.
