YORK – Richard “Dick” Burton, 71, went home with the Lord on Sept. 12, 2004, following a brief illness. He bravely battled with mental illness and physical problems his entire life. As he had always loved the ocean, he was happy to be living at the Woodbridge home in York Village for the past years and was happy with the care he received as well as the companionship he enjoyed from his housemates. Richard retired from carpentry many years ago and many homes in the area were constructed, in part, by him. He was an accomplished boat builder and was proud of his sturdy crafts. He had a great fondness for history, reading, and eating out at the Weathervane restaurant. Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Liz, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his granddaughter, Kori. Kori was very special to him and he was so proud of her accomplishments in academics and sports. He enjoyed her many letters to him as distance kept them apart. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Earl Jameson, of Greenbush; two brothers, Charles and his wife, Lee, and Robert, all from Massachusetts, as well as many nieces and nephews. He had made many special friends in the York area. Richard, although he never had monetary wealth, would help out anyone in need if he could. Because of this, he wished for no memorial service and did not wish to have a funeral. He wanted any funds to go toward others. In lieu of flowers please donate to a worthy charity in his name. A service of Memorial Alternatives, 1225 Broadway, Bangor.
