ORRINGTON and BANGOR – Richard “Dick” Harris Winship Jr., 66, died unexpectedly Nov. 8, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 26, 1939, in Brewer, the son of Richard H. and Uldene (Goode) Winship Sr. Dick was a 1957 graduate of Bangor High School, and Husson College, Class of 1963. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and was employed for many years by Webber Energy retiring as president of Brake Service and Parts, Inc. of Bangor. He was a member of the Breakfast Rotary Club of Bangor. Active in Masonry, Dick was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies, Maine Consistory 32 degree, Anah Shriners, and was coroneted a 33 degree in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 31, 1993, and became an honorary member of the Supreme Council of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction USA. Dick was crowned an active member of the Supreme Council in 2001, at Indianapolis, Ind., and in 2003, at St. Louis, Mo., elected deputy for the State of Maine. He loved his family and enjoyed woodworking, flying and traveling with family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Jane (Wilson) Winship, of Orrington; two children, Richard H. Winship III of Orrington and Ronda Jane Hogan of Bangor; three grandchildren, Megan, Scott and Matthew Hogan, all of Bangor; his mother, Uldene (Goode) Winship of Bangor; two brothers, Kenneth B. Winship of Newburgh and Walter A. Winship of Portland; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Richard H. Winship Sr. in 2003. A funeral service will be held noon Thursday, Nov. 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain of Husson College, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., immediately following the funeral Thursday. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
