LEE, N.H. – Richard E. Leavitt died June 22, 2005 at the home of his daughter, Bette Reith. He was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Flint, Mich., the son of the late Elsie and Everett Leavitt. He spent his early childhood in Lynn, Mass., and his teenage years in Newburyport, Mass. He attended Governor Dummer Academy and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He worked at his father’s business, Essex Tool and Die in Salisbury, Mass., until 1976. He then started his own company, The Richard E. Leavitt Co., in Bridgton, where he worked until he retired in 1991. He spent his retirement years in Greenville, on beautiful Moosehead Lake. Richard loved life and the outdoors, enjoying, skiing, mountain climbing, canoeing, golf and camping. Richard leaves behind his wife, Marilyn; his three children and their spouses, Alan Leavitt and wife, Lydia, Scott Leavitt and wife, Helen, and Bette Reith and husband, Skip; four grandchildren, Charlie Morrill, Nichole Morrill, Alexander Leavitt, and Howard Reith. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date to be determined. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
