NEWBURGH – Richard F. Ward, 81, beloved husband of Rita (Laflamme) Ward, passed away Feb. 26, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Newburgh, the son of Alton and Vera (Craig) Ward. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 107 of Carmel. Richard was a farmer and livestock dealer and traveled all throughout Maine and Canada, and to the stockyards in Massachusetts. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years. He is survived by his children, Roger and Chris Ward of Newburgh, Rinda and Bill White of Hermon; five grandchildren, Renee and Mike Kelly of Carmel, Renita and Clint Downer of Thorndike, Ryan and Sarah Ward of Newburgh, Alayna White of Portland, and Cassie White of Hermon; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ian Kelly, and Tristan and Dominick Downer; two sisters, Glenys Harris of Dixmont, and Donna Butler and her husband, Sam, of Winterport; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Merle Ward; and a sister, Arlene Randolph. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
