BANGOR – Richard F. Withee, 71, died Oct. 12, 2004, at his home after a cour-ageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He was born July 28, 1933, in Bangor, the son of Harold and Barbara (Ellis) Withee. Dick was a graduate of Bangor High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1955. Dick worked for and retired from Eutectic Welding Co. in 1992 as a salesman. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dolores (White) Withee of Bangor; a daughter Candace and her husband, Phillip Cowan; two grandchildren, Patrick Cowan and his companion, Amanda Whitney and Brian Cowan; a brother, Arthur Withee and his wife, Betty; a sister, Adrianna Teolis; brother-in-law, Eugene R. White and his wife, Lorraine; sister-in-law, Rosalie White; one aunt, Rachel Ellis; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Donald White and William A. Withee. Friends may call from 5-8:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 14, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the services Friday to the St. John’s Fellowship Hall, 207 York St., Bangor. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Bangor Public Library, Children’s Department, 145 Harlow St., Bangor, Me 04401 in honor of Dick’s love for books and children.
