EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Richard H. Getchell, 83, formerly of East Syracuse, N.Y., died May 23, 2006, in Charlottesville, Va. Mr. Getchell attained the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force before he retired in 1965. He was an aerial photographer who later became a POW in Germany during World War II and a jet fighter pilot in Korea. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Shirley Dyer Getchell. His survivors include a daughter, Sandy Getchell-White of Charlottesville; a son, Richard A. “Rick” Getchell of Louisville, Ky. and a son-in-law, Steve White of Charlottesville, Va. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Jennifer Skulitz of Venice, Fla., Adrienne White and Maria White of Charlottesville, Va., and Jessica Stetson and her husband, Jim, and Nathan Getchell, all from Louisville, Ky.; as well as one great-granddaughter, Caroline Stetson, also from Louisville. Mr. Getchell will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery alongside his wife, Gloria, 3 p.m. July 13, 2006.
