BASS HARBOR – Richard Higgins Sr., 61, died April 29, 2008, at his residence. He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Ellsworth, son of Weston and Wilda (Pomeroy) Higgins. He worked as a lobsterman and mechanic mostly, but also dabbled in masonry. Richard enjoyed photography, camping, fresh-water fishing and feeding stray cats. He was a member of the Housing Committee, Bass Harbor. He was predeceased by his father; sister, Gail; and brothers, Raymond and Robert. Richard is survived by his mother, Wilda Higgins of Surry; sisters, Sharon Davis, Lyla Crawford, both of Lamoine, Brenda Weidmyer of Wisconsin, Cheryl Higgins of Ellsworth and Debra Innes of Bar Harbor; brothers, William, Gary, Malcolm, all of Lamoine, Steven of Surry and Michael of New York; sons, Richard Higgins Jr. of Bass Harbor and Tori Garland of Ellsworth; granddaughter, Jackie Higgins of Bass Harbor; many nieces and nephews; and loving friend, George Sawyer of Southwest Harbor. Friends are invited to services 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Higgins residence, 223 McQuinns Road, Lamoine.
