RICHARD L. GUPTILL LUBEC – Richard “Dickie” Guptill passed away Sept. 12, 2008, at a local hospital with his family at his side, after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Machias. He was predeceased by his father, Earl Guptill; his sister, Diane Stafford; and his brother, Gary Guptill. He is survived by his companion of many years, Marie Olson of Lubec; his daughter, Michelle and his two grandchildren, Austin and Ayden, of West Virginia; his mother, Lois Tucker and stepfather, Merrill Tucker, of Lubec; his brother, Gene Guptill and his wife, Fran, of Windham; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Guptill of Sanford; several nieces and nephews; and Steve, Junia, Michael and Sarah Lehman of Lubec, who he thought of as his extended family. He worked at Pratt and Whitney, Meridan, Conn., before working at Georgia Pacific Mill – Domtar, Baileyville, for 29 years. He will be greatly missed by his traveling companions, Brian Newman and David Murray. At his request, there will be no memorial service. A private service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.
