PEMBROKE – Rita Barr, 59, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at her home. Rita was born Sept. 28, 1945, in Brunswick, daughter of the late Joseph L. and Rose Anna (Fortin) Philippon. She received a bachelor of science in education from the University of Maine, Machias, and graduated with a culinary arts degree from Southern Maine Vocations Tech. Rita was employed as a teacher for Houlton Vocational Ed, Pembroke Education Tech and adult education in Washington county. She married Robert W. Barr Jr., April 16, 1983, in Perry. Rita was a member of St. John The Evangelist in Pembroke and various quilting groups. She enjoyed many different kinds of handcrafts, quilting, culinary arts and raising animals. Surviving are her husband of more than 22 years, Robert W. Barr Jr.; three sisters and three brothers, Sister Mary Rita S.M.S.M. of Waltham, Mass., Claude Philippon and wife, Barbara, of Brunswick, Ben Philippon and wife, Trudy, of Wayne, N.J., Ursula Desjardins and husband, Leo, of Brunswick, Andre Philippon of Topsham and Marie Anita Philippon of Dracut, Mass.; two nephews, Daniel J. Philippon and wife, Nancy, of Minn. and their daughter, Gracie, and Michael Desjardins and wife, Heather, of Kittery; and many cousins and dear friends. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist R. C. in Pembroke, with the Rev. Eugene F. Gaffey, celebrant. Burial will follow in Round Pond Cemetery, Charlotte.
