RITA PAULINE HOUSTON BREWER – Rita Pauline Houston, 77, died July 9, 2007, at Brewer Rehab & Living Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. She was born Dec. 1, 1929, in the town of Kenduskeag, to the late Irvin and Amy Pullen. She attended grammar school in Kenduskeag before transferring to Brewer High School. On Feb. 27, 1948, she was united in marriage to Liston M. Houston of Brewer. Rita was employed by the Brewer School Department for 25 years in food services. She was a member of the North Brewer/Eddington United Methodist Church, where she participated in many church activities and groups. Rita is survived by her husband, Liston; her son and his wife, Brian and Pam of Brewer; her son and his wife, Tom and Sally of Brewer; her daughter and her husband, Kathy and Sam Drew of Clifton; seven grandchildren, James Moor-head of Boulder, Colo., Amanda Houston Albert of Holden, Jodie Dupuy of Brooks, Rhonda Tate of Otis, Cassie Houston of Brooklyn, N.Y., Samantha Dowling of Holden and Emily Carstensen of Eddington; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Claire McClure of North Carolina, Ethlyn Gass of Florida, Ginger Sodermark and Eleanor Beckwith, both of Kenduskeag; and one brother, Gordon Pullen, also of Kenduskeag; close sister-in-law, Shirley Wilson of Brewer. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other friends and many relatives. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Elma Page and Shirley Adams; four brothers, William, George, Lamont and Raymond; and one special grandson, Scott Houston. The family thanks all of the staff of the Brewer Rehab & Living Center for their help and support. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Wed-nesday at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services for Rita P. Houston will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves, pastor of the North Brewer/Eddington United Methodist Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
