OLD TOWN – Robert Allen “Bob” Gotay, 56, passed away Feb. 16, 2007. He was born June 30, 1950, in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of Augustine and Mary (Munoz) Gotay. Bob served our country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He dedicated his life to helping those in need. Bob was known to donate freely to area charities and offer rides to elderly community members. He opened his home to area children in need and they became part of his family. Bob cherished his family; they were the most important part of his life. He was known to do almost anything for a joke. Bob also enjoyed music and was a composer and lyricist. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the NAACP. Bob had a zest for life that his family will never forget. He was predeceased by his father; sister, Maria; and grandmother, Carmen Munoz. Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia (Rooney) Gotay; daughters, Hannah and Erin; son, Robert; the many children they opened their home to; mother, Mary Cerberville; brother, Mark Cerberville and his wife, Julie; aunts, Millie, Carmen and Natalie; a niece and two nephews; dear friend, Paul Ferrante; companions, Andre, his husky and 10 cats. Visiting hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Holy Family Parish, Old Town.
