LUBEC – Robert Bryce Reynolds, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, June 5, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born Jan. 22, 1921, Bryce was the son of F. Maurice and Eva Arrolyn Knight Reynolds. He graduated from Lubec High School in 1938. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, J. Rowena Towers, Nov. 1, 1941. Theirs was the first wedding performed by the Rev. Stockford in Lubec. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Bryce worked on his father’s White Face Farm when he was young. From 1941 to 1944, he built Liberty Ships for the New England Shipbuilding Corp., South Portland. From there he entered the U.S. Army, taking his basic training in Blanding, Fla. He served with the 32nd Infantry Division in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946. Near the end of World War II he realized his need for God and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. When he returned from the war, Bryce and Rowena together built a home on the Ridge in Lubec, where they lived for nearly six decades. He was employed by J. B. Hunt, and drove a school bus for many years. In 1969 he went to work as a master electrician at the Naval Communication Unit, Cutler. He retired from there in 1987. Bryce loved God greatly and he loved his family. In the early years, he and Ro seldom went anywhere without all the children. And when the grandchildren came along, they brought him a special joy. He was a lifelong member of Ridge Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a deacon, a trustee, a Sunday school teacher and treasurer. He played acoustic guitar and sang, enjoyed crossword puzzles, was a ham radio operator and in recent years sent a nightly e-mail, often containing his own poetry. Bryce is survived by his beloved wife, Rowena; two sons, Robert Jr. “Bobby” of Dennysville and Howard and wife, Diane, of Gainesville Ga.; two daughters, Vicki and husband, James Schad, of Vassalboro and Judi and husband, Jeffrey Sicko, of Wilson, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Timothy and wife, Katherine Schad, of Washington, D.C., Benjamin Schad of San Diego, Joel Bryce and wife, Amber Sicko, Jacob “Jack” Sicko and Jared Sicko, all of Wilson, N.C., Andrew Bryce Reynolds of Burlington, N.C., and Kyle and Amber Reynolds of Gaines-ville, Ga.; one great-grand-child, Samuel T. He has two surviving sisters, Norma Hampton of Lubec and Wilma “Billie” Ingalls of Machias. His parents; and a younger brother, Frank, predeceased him. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening at Ridge Baptist Church, Lubec. Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, at Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Green officiating.
