GLENBURN – Robert Edward Campbell Jr., 70, devoted husband of 49 years to Jacqueline (Mundy) Campbell, died unexpectedly June 24, 2007, at his home. He was born May 5, 1937, in Brewer, the son of Robert E. Campbell Sr. and Marjorie M. (Arey) Campbell. Bob was a graduate of John Bapst High School, Class of 1955. He worked as a certified arborist for the State of Maine until 1960. After graduation from John Bapst, he joined the Maine Air National Guard, where he served for 42 years, retiring with the rank of master sergeant. Bob was an active member of the Glenburn community for 30 years, where he served as town selectman, member of the school board, member and chair of the town council, town moderator and a member of the PVCOG, Penobscot Valley Council of Governors. He was known to be always lending a helping hand in sponsoring public and benefit suppers. He was also an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he served as an acolyte, Eucharistic minister and was a member of the prison ministry. He was an avid scuba diver and instructor and was instrumental in forming the Dirigo Divers. Bob’s hobbies included split cane bamboo fly rod constructing, fly-tying, organic gardening, bread and biscuit making, bean hole beans and salmon fishing. Bob had a deep desire and passion for helping people who could not help themselves. “Fish on, Dad, fish on!” Surviving are his beloved wife, Jackie of Glenburn; two sons, Robert E. III and Patrick, both of Glenburn; three daughters, Wendy Stuart and her husband, Michael, of Belgrade, Kimberly Files and her husband, Christopher, of Dedham and Michelle Hughes and her husband, Glenn, of Glenburn; 10 grandchildren, John, Matthew and Stacey Stuart, Ryan, Marcus and Jaclyn Files, Joshua and Jared Hughes and Jennifer Champagne and Michelle Meinkoth Hill; three great-grandchildren, Moriah, Mikaylah and Bailey; one brother, Joseph R. Campbell and his wife, Gail, of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Peggy Bryant and her husband, Gordon, of Grand Lake Stream, Carol Donovan and her husband, Paul, of Calais and Linda Curtis and her husband, Damon, of Grand Lake Stream; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald “Uncle Fud” Mundy and his wife, Anne, of Bangor; four uncles, George, John, Martin and Irwin; three aunts, Eleanor Young, Elizabeth Moore and Eileen Jensen; a special nephew and niece, Eric and Vickie Watkins; many other nieces and nephews. Bob will be sadly missed by his yorkie, Oscar aka, Critter. He was predeceased by a daughter, Colleen Campbell Meinkoth. Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider. Interment with full military honors will be held noon Monday, July 2, provided by the Maine Air National Guard, Maine State Honor Guard, at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.
