VERONA ISLAND – Robert E. Findlay, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, with is loving family by his side, at his home. Born Oct. 13, 1928, in Orland, the son of Robert and Helen (Churchill) Findlay, “Fin” as he is lovingly know as, was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid supporter of high school sports programs, even well after his own children had left high school. He loved to attend the games, often getting to the games several hours before they began to get his favorite spot. Fin also dealt in antiques, owning and operating Island Trader Antiques, Verona Island; he loved to wheel and deal. While antiques were his hobby, his work career was that of a firefighter and emergency medical technician, EMT. He served as a firefighter and EMT in Bucksport for many years, and was also a reserve police officer for the town of Bucksport and a reserve sheriff for Hancock County. Fin was a selectman for the town of Verona Island for many years. He was a 32nd degree mason, was a member of Felicity Lodge No. 19 AF & AM, as well as Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne (Lemieux) Findlay of Verona Island; three sons, Glenn Findlay and his wife, Judy, Scott Findlay and his wife, Kathy, all of Bucksport, and Robbie Findlay and his wife, Michelle, of Verona Island; one daughter, Aimie Cunningham and her husband, Sheldon, of Orland; one stepson, Steve; three stepdaughters, Brenda Jean, Cathy and Linda; grandchildren, Ryan, Nikki, Derek, Cory, Andrew and Alicia; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob, Brandyn, Brady, Casey and Samantha; two brothers, Jack Findlay and his wife, Terry, of Alabama and Richard Findlay and his wife, Diane, of Bucksport; one uncle, Gene Churchill and his wife, Eileen, of Orland; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fin was predeceased by his wife, Margaret H. Findlay in 1990. Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elm Street Congregational Church, Elm Street, Bucksport, with Pastor Steve Sobel officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bucksport High School Quarterback Club, in care of Coach Joel Sankey, 19 DeRusha Lane, Brewer, ME 04412.
