BASS HARBOR – Robert Elliot Cushing, 82, died March 16, 2005, at an MDI Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Malden, Mass., the son of E. Forrest and Mary A. (Gardner) Cushing. As a child, Robert played pickup baseball nightly and before moving to Maine, enjoyed weekly golf outings with his Irish friends. He worked at the James Millen Manufacturing Company, in Malden. Robert moved to Maine in 1962, and went to work for Stinsons. Later he went to work at Acadia National Park, in the maintenance division. He loved to hang out at the Deacon Seat Restaurant in Southwest Harbor and the Riverside Restaurant in Ellsworth. Robert was a simple man who loved a good joke. He enjoyed baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. Robert enjoyed animals and he loved to feed and watch the birds and he was partial to Basset Hounds and Pug dogs. He will be sadly missed by his dear friends. He is survived by his cousin, Eleanor Geyer of Sherman Oaks, Calif. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden, Mass. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
