BREWER – Mr. Robert J. “Bob” Miller 79, passed away peacefully Oct. 17, 2005, at his home in Brewer surrounded by his family. He was formerly of Rumford. He was born April 29, 1926, in New Britain, Conn., the son of Villa and Mary Miller. He attended Mexico Schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. He served on the USS Hornet in World War II and the London Embassy during the Korean War. He worked for Boise Cascade in Rumford as a pipefitter. An active member of his community, Bob was a chairman of the Rumford School Board and also served as a town selectman. He was a member of the BPOE No. 862 Rumford Elks Lodge and served in various leadership positions before becoming Exalted Ruler. He was also a member and former Chaplain of Napoleon Ouellette Post No. 24 American Legion. He was a longtime communicant of St. Athanasius – St. John Church in Rumford where he sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Bob volunteered for many organizations over the years including Santa’s Helpers and Meals on Wheels as well as being a youth coach and avid sports fan. He will be remembered for his love of family and duty to God and neighbor. He was married Sept. 6, 1954, to Frances M. Bulger who survives of Brewer. Other survivors include four sons, Brian and his wife, Sherri, of Lakeland, Fla., Barry and his wife, Pam, of Rumford, Bruce and his wife, Joan, of Turner and Bennett and his wife, Lori, of Manchester; one daughter, Barbara McGuan and her husband, David, of Holden; 10 grandchildren, Corey Miller of Lakeland, Fla., Ian and Kera Miller of Rumford, Kyle and Erin McGuan of Holden, Megan and Nathan Miller of Turner and Seth, Christine and Patrick Miller of Manchester. He is also survived by a brother, Roger Miller and his wife, Marcelle, of Rumford; a sister, Marilyn Turbide and husband, Maurice, of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Marguerite (Peg) Miller of Topsham; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Visitation 7 p.m. Wednesday by BPOE No. 862 Rumford Elks. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Athanasius – St. John Church in Rumford. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Rumford.
