FALMOUTH – Robert J. Tomberg, 85, of 191 Foreside Road, died April 26, 2005. He was born April 7, 1920, in New York, N.Y., the only son of Samuel and Gertrude Levy Tomberg. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, and then from Pace University earning a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He served his country courageously in the U.S. Army during World War II. In October of 1978, he married Germaine Lahalle. After returning from the service, Bob worked in the garment industry with his father, then had a successful career on Wall Street, but left to pursue his passion of teaching. Bob taught at Murry Bergtraum in Manhattan until 1992, when he retired and moved to Maine, a place he had been visiting often since 1940. An avid outdoorsman and climber, he vacationed at York’s Twin Pine Camps in Baxter State Park and climbed Mount Katahdin many times. Bob was a loving man to all those that were fortunate to have known him, with his warm smile and kind words. His love of life, love of teaching, and love for family and friends will be an inspiration to us all. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Germaine Tomberg and their daughter, Sylvie Arnold of California and Curtis LaMarr. Bob is also survived by his first wife, Mary Tomberg, and their two daughters, Laura Perricone of New Jersey and her husband, Chris, Claire Ireland of New Jersey and her husband, Simon; granddaughter, Emily Glass and her husband, Dan; and a great-grandson, Michael. A Memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress St., Portland.
