BROOKLIN – Robert P. Tapley, 76, died Oct. 12, 2007, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 13, 1931, in Blue Hill, the son of Joseph and Myrtle (Bridges) Tapley. Bob graduated from Brooklin High School in 1949, and Husson College in 1951. He worked for Eastern Corp., Brewer, for 13 years after which he worked for 25 years for LCP and later HoltraChem, Orrington, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Bob and Ruth retired to Brooklin, where he became active in the community. Bob was elected to the board of selectmen in Brooklin and served for more than 10 years and in later years he served as chairman. He loved working outside and spending time in his workshop building beautiful pieces of furniture. He was a member of Brooklin Baptist Church and served on many committees there. He was actively involved in organizing the summer and Christmas hymn sings at Rockbound Chapel and served as president of the chapel for 10 years. He was well-known and well-liked in the community, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth; daughter, Lori Edwards and husband, Danny; cousins, Elaine Heitz and husband, Leonard, Marie Haynes, Carolyn Kelleher, and Jan Jones and husband, Ray; sisters-in-law, Alice Egland and Helen Egland; brother-in-law, Robert Becker; several nieces and nephews; and special “grand dogs,” Max and Samantha. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Brooklin Baptist Church. Interment will be at Rural Cemetery, Sedgwick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob’s memory be made to Brooklin Fire Department, P.O.
