GLENBURN – Robert R. Betters, 78, husband of 58 years to Elsie (Vague) Betters, died April 5, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Bangor, the son of John and Delphine (Bolduc) Betters. He served in the U.S. Navy, 1948-49, aboard the USS Midway. After his honorable discharge he worked for Eastern Fine Paper Co., for 41 years. Robert was a member of American Legion Post of Glenburn. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening with his John Deere tractor. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Elsie, are one daughter, Catherine Quimby and her husband, Lynwood, of Glenburn; two granddaughters, Shawna Sheehan and her husband, Charlie, of Hermon and Shelly Bourgoin and her husband, Roger, of Levant; and one great-granddaughter, Bridget Devine of Levant. He was predeceased by a sister, Victoria DeRoche. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, with the Rev. Dr. Henry Wyman officiating. Spring interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
