CUMBERLAND FORESIDE – Robert S. Swartwout, passed away Nov. 8, 2003. He was born in New York City and lived and attended schools in Brookline, Mass. He served 3 1/2 years in the Army during World War II in the 105 Medical Battalion of the 30th Infantry Division, serving in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He also was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Combat Medical Award. Mr. Swartwout retired from Texaco Inc. after 43 years of service in Portland, as Texaco operation supervisor. He enjoyed the sports of golf, tennis and swimming. He also enjoyed belonging to some of the local clubs. His wife, Yvonne Swartwout died previously. Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Swartwout of Burlington, Vt., and Jeffrey S. Swartwout of Carmel, Ind.; two grandchildren, Christopher and Katelynn, both of Carmel, Ind. Also surviving is his companion of several years, JoAnn Hesslein. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Falmouth. Burial will be private. Contributions may be made in the memory of Yvonne Swartwout to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by the Lindquist funeral Home, Yarmouth.
