BLUE HILL – Robert S. Thomas, 93, died March 16, 2005, at a Blue Hill hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1912, in San Diego, Calif. Robert was the only child of Samuel and Marcia (Day) Thomas who were attending the 1912 exposition at the time of his birth. He grew up in Blue Hill and when his father died the family moved to Winthrop, Mass. where he graduated from high school. Later he moved to Miami, Fla. After serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, he worked on his cousin’s deep sea fishing boat on Pier 5 in Miami, Fla., drove a bus for the Miami Beach Railway, and later he had a long career driving tractor trailers before retiring and moving back to Blue Hill more than 30 years ago. He had been an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Blue Hill and served as chaplain and was a past grand. He was also associate member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Brooksville. He was a past master and active member of the Halcyon Grange. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; and a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Recco of Castine; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel and Becky King of York Haven, Pa.; dear friends, Maurice Gordon, Debbie and Mike Dyer, Shirley Le Blanc, Rose and Phil Small, Brian and Christie Snow, their two children of Blue Hill, Hazel Hunt of Brooklyn, Debbie Chapman of Penobscot, Becky and Ramiro Fernandez, their two children of Hudson Oaks, Texas; cousin Gordon and Edna Carter of Blue Hill and many other family cousins in this area. There will be no visiting hours and following cremation. Interment will be at Seaside Cemetery in the spring. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Congregational Church of Blue Hill.
