BREWER – Robert T. Carlisle III, 62, died May 20, 2007, at his home, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 30, 1944, in Ellsworth, the only child of Robert T. Carlisle Jr. and Janet E. (Giles) Carlisle. He was a graduate of Ellsworth High School, Class of 1962, and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in culinary arts. His career in the restaurant business started at Brookside Restaurant, Ells-worth. For the next 35 years, he was associated with the Brewer IGA Supermarket and Coffee Shop. He ran the bakery for several years and then became a cook, manager and finally, owner of the Coffee Shop. In the late ’70s and ’80s, he also worked part-time as a reserve officer for the Brewer Police Department. His last employment in the food industry was as manager for the Main Sail Restaurant, Northeast Harbor. At the time of his death, he was a real estate agent affiliated with Realty of Maine, and a member of the National Association of Realtors. He was a PAL basketball coach for several years, fundraiser and board member for United Cerebral Palsy of Eastern Maine, and a member and current vice moderator of the First Congregational Church of Brewer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and traveling, especially to their timeshare in Aruba. He was an active supporter of local high school and college sports. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lynne (Pullen) Carlisle of Brewer; his son, Michael and wife, Joanne, of Boston; his daughter, Michelle of Eddington; his father, Robert T. Carlisle Jr. of Brewer; his aunt, Marjorie Curtis and husband, Fred, of Surry; his sister-in-law, Barbara Harmon and husband, Albert, of Hancock; and his brother-in-law, Donald Pullen and wife, Jaye, of Ellsworth; also several cousins, a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by his mother, Janet G. Carlisle. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, interim pastor of the First Congregational Church of Brewer, officiating. Burial will be after the service at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, after the committal.
