MARGATE, Fla.- Teddy Ireland, 54, died Sunday morning, April 13, 2008. He was born July 31, 1953, in Presque Isle, the son of Ray and Bobbie (Thompson) Ireland. Teddy enjoyed high school basketball, fishing and golfing. When he was young, he traveled every summer with his family to Gorham Raceway, where he and his brothers worked for their father, in the horse business. They traveled all throughout New England; Saratoga, Vernon Downs, Poconos, Meadowlands, Pompano, and Canada, finally settling in Florida where he had been a successful horse trainer for the past 30 years. He met his wife Sue at Palm Beach Trotting Center. He is survived by his wife, Sue (Seybold) Ireland of Margate, Fla.; a daughter, Cary (Ireland) Herrera and son-in- law, Brian Herrera; a granddaughter, Ruby Shey Herrara; three brothers, Bill Ireland of Presque Isle, Kim Ireland and wife, Wendy Ireland, of West Gardiner, John Ireland of Presque Isle; three sisters, Becky (Ireland) Martin and husband, Albert Martin Jr., Pam (Ireland) Lynch and husband, Gene Lynch II, Sherry (Ireland) Plissey and husband, Lance Plissey; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Carly Rae Herrera; his paternal grandparents, Vernon and Hilda Ireland; and maternal grandparents, W. Steadman Thompson and Eileen Kelley Thompson. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service for family will be held Thursday, April 17, at Bethany Baptist Church.
