ROBERTA E. BARTEAUX ‘BERT’ HAMPDEN – Roberta E. Barteaux passed away Oct. 3, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Philip and Mildred (Fowler) Holmes. Bert is survived by Roy Barteaux, her beloved husband of 53 years; one daughter, Leah Barteaux; one son, Dan Barteaux, all of Hampden; one sister, Berla Lawrence of Dedham; one brother, Bernie Holmes of Hope; five grandchildren, Paige, Elaina, Nate, Jack and William Barteaux, all of Hampden; several nieces and nephews and their families. Roberta lived her entire childhood and most of her adult life in Hampden and was a graduate of Hampden Academy. She worked a variety of jobs around the Bangor area up until the birth of her first child in 1963. From that point on, Bert did what she loved and did best, caring for and nurturing her family. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Roberta will be remembered by a special group of friends, her fellow campers at Whispering Pines Campground in East Orland, where for the last several years Roy and Roberta were seasonal residents. Roberta loved time spent at her campsite enjoying the company of friends, reading, basket weaving and especially kayaking. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Deborah M. Jenks, pastor of the Hampden Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be private at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
