BLAINE – Roberta E. Stitham, 79, beloved wife of the late Gordon “Red” Stitham, crossed over to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, Nov. 22, 2003, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. She was born Dec. 11, 1923, at Limestone, the daughter of Ernest W. and Lena (Hamilton) Thompson. She retired as a secretary at the Aroostook Health Center. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mars Hill, where she served as church secretary, a member of the United Methodist Women, a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary William Cousins Post No. 118, and a member of the Eastern Star. Roberta is survived by a daughter, Priscilla Stitham York of Mattawamkeag; five sons, Stephen K. and his wife, Colleen, of Mars Hill, Gordon L. and his wife, Susan, of Orrington, Michael J. and his wife, Suzanne, of Mars Hill, Peter J. and his fianc‚e, Claudia of Mattawamkeag, David B. and his wife, Norma, of Mars Hill; a sister, Virginia Schupak and her husband, Andrew, of South Portland; a brother, Preston Thompson of Presque Isle; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Barbara Benson and her husband, Arnold of Scottsmoor, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Stitham of Windsor Locks, Conn.; a special friend, Frances Banks of Mars Hill. She was predeceased by her husband and a son, Alvin L. There will be private calling hours for the family. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Mars Hill, with the Rev. Beth Ann Black and Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Interment will be in Tapley Cemetery, Blaine. Donations may be made in memory of Roberta E. Stitham to the United Methodist Church of Mars Hill, “Red” Stitham Scholarship Fund, P.O.
