ELLSWORTH and OLD TOWN – Roberta June McLean, 66, died March 18, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born April 15, 1940, in Trenton, the daughter of Charles H. and Gertrude (Boulier) Springer. Roberta graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1959. She worked as a nurses aid for more than 30 years, working with the elderly in nursing homes and as a private duty nurse, which she loved doing and was regarded highly by both staff and the patients she cared for. Roberta traveled extensively while her children were young, raising her family all over the world with her husband, Peter, during his career in the U.S. Navy. She loved crafts of all kinds especially knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing and made many keepsakes for family and friends throughout many years. She especially loved browsing at yard sales and flea markets and never could pass up a bargain. More than anything she loved time with her family and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Peter McLean of Old Town; two sons, Peter McLean and wife, Paula, of Polk City, Fla., and Gregory McLean and wife, Tracey, of Atlanta; two daughters, Yolanda Castiglia of Eddington and Cheryl Messier of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Donald Springer of Henderson, N.C.; three sisters, Thelma Doane, Velma Howard and husband, Merle, all of Cardville and Lillian Welch of Milford; eight grandchildren, Ben, Christopher, Anthony, Nathan, Rachel, Elana, Derrick and Joseph. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Charles Henry Jr.; and a sister, Arlene Levesque. Relatives and friends are invited to call 1-2 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral service will begin 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Roix, pastor of the Cardville United Pentecostal Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Yolanda’s home, 92 Clewleyville Road, Eddington, after the service.
